Down on Penny Lane...

By Carolyn Hughes on Nov 5, 07 01:40 PM in

When you live and work in the city centre it is sometimes a nice change to go outside of the centre of town to eat or drink. On Friday a group of friends and I went down to Lief on Penny Lane, a new bar and restaurant concept, owned and operated by the same people who have Alma Da Cuba.

I have to say the food and service were excellent and the interior is certainly different to a lot of the bars that are opening now, quite grand in design, which works well for the venue. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening with great food and great wine, in chilled surroundings. We will definitely be going back again.

I think the changes made to the new look dovedale towers are fantastic - so much better than when it was darkly painted with those stuffed animals everywhere. The food and service are much improved too and there was also a good drinks menu with some interesting wines/cocktails on there. Well worth a visit!

It's different!
- Parking, where else do you get this?
- Welcoming atmosphere
- Excellent food
- Staff that care
And of course an excellant bar and cocktail selection for both drinkers and none drinkers.

We were looking for something different and found it. A very special building with character and a modern touch. We were unsure what cocktail to have and the staff serving discussed the options and recommended one he thought appropriate which we had to have a few more of so it must have been a good choice.
We are only waiting for an excuse to go back and spend more time at Dovedale Towers so it won't be long until they see us again.

Thanks to all the staff!

Lief

great new approach to the area, great atmosphere, food fantastic, and service was polite and cordial. So easy to get to and park, no hassle, very welcoming, which good menu choices, would certainly go again. Give it a try.

I have been there twice and the food on both occassions has been excellent, the service very friendly and helpful, and who gives a damn about the parking when it's almost on your doorstep (but there is plenty of that too).

Despite the location of Allerton Road, I've got a feeling Lief is going to become my regular local haunt.

I was in Lief last night to listen to the Live Jazz they currently have on Wednesdays. Could not fault the place, finally somewhere that caters for the locals in Allerton and Mossley Hill. The food was up there with best in Liverpool, can't wait for our christmas party in their private dining room.

Hmmm...

I can't help but feel sorry for those in the Penny Lane area that no longer have a good old fashioned boozer within staggering distance.
