Herbert Howe hosted Queenies Christmas at the Adelphi on Christmas day.

Over 150 people attended the festive lunch organised by Queenies Christmas, the charity Herbert has set up in memory of his late mother Queenie.

Herbert said that his mother adored Christmas and the day was a fitting tribute to her memory.

Following a sherry and a sumptuous Christmas lunch Herbert had organised entertainment for the guests.

The Lord and Lady Mayoress joined the party with their family and Radio Merseyside’s Billy Butler also joined the festivities.

Congratulations to Herbert and his team for organising a superb lunch for a group of very grateful people.

It was heartwarming to see so many people enjoying what was a truly wonderful occasion

It's panto time!

By Carolyn Hughes on Dec 24, 07 12:08 AM in

I called in this week to see my friend Jane Brown’s Panto – Cinderella at the Royal Court Theatre – Produced by Crown Productions the show really is special. I am not the biggest fan of Panto, but I must confess that I thoroughly enjoyed the show from start to finish it made me laugh, tap my feet and sing along. Radio City’s Peter Price plays a great Buttons and Eithne Brown and Chrissy Rock are very funny as Paris and Nicole the Ugly Sisters – their Amy Winehouse scene had me in pleats of laughter!! I popped into see my lovely friend Peter Price – who as well as being the consummate professional, is clearly loving the show. Nice to see Steven Pinder as Prince Charming…. All in all, a great night out!!

The stunning surroundings of the Town Hall was the venue yesterday for the annual Lord Mayors Childrens Christmas party.

Peter Crouch, Abi Clancey and Ricky Tomlinson came along to join in the festive fun with the children. Herbert Howe’s charity, Queenies Christmas, sponsored the event and provided many added extras.

Face painters, clowns, balloon artists and a disco entertained the excited crowd of youngsters. Herbert said that it was a fitting tribute to his mother Queenies memory as she love Christmas and adored all children.

I can honestly say, I really have NEVER seen the Town Hall quite so lively!! And how nice of Abi and Peter and Ricky to come along. Nice to see Ricky looking so well following his well documented recent ill health!

Brouhaha showcase

By Carolyn Hughes on Dec 14, 07 10:08 PM in

Liverpool's arts and corporate worlds came together last week as Brouhaha International Arts Festival launched a showcase of their programme for 2008 at Alma de Cuba.

In addition to enjoying delicious canapés whipped up by the restaurant and a variety of dinks including rum punch, the guests were treated to a preview from a couple of the performers; Italian's La Paranza del Geco brought a smile to guests' faces as soon as they walked through the door, while later in the evening dance company Ballet Entredanzas took to the stage having been flown to Liverpool especially for the event.

Guests were also treated to a preview of MTV's Wannabe star, Celena Amiria, who performed a medley of Kylie songs in a stunning showgirl outfit.

Liverpool and Manchester city centre property specialist, City Residential, celebrated it’s sixth birthday party at the Italian inspired Casartelli development on Hanover Street, directly opposite the Liverpool One development in Liverpool city centre recently.

The Italian themed event – hosted by City Residential and the Casartelli’s developer Monopol - was held in the luxurious surrounding of the penthouse, atop the £8million re-developed distinctive building.

Originally built in 1760, The Casartelli has been painstakingly re-built and transformed into 31 two-bedroom apartments steeped in original features and inspired by the Italian Renaissance. Internally the apartments are equally as impressive as their unusual façade implies. Kitchens boast a sleek and sophisticated specification without being ostentatious and bathrooms are equally as luxurious.

Joining City Residential and Monopol on the night were around 80 of the city’s business fraternity, while photographers, Venture Liverpool, which has it’s studio on the ground floor of the building, supplied a goody bag featuring free family photography.

With so many people looking stressed at this time of year, one person who always makes me smile these days is actor Kris Mochrie who, despite a serious spinal injury always manages to look happy.

I bumped into him at the Living Room last week and he informs me that he is thinking of putting tinsel on the metal frame that protects his head for Christmas!

Get well soon Chris! Oh and in case you were wondering when I asked him how he got the injury…. he told me – with a VERY big smile – that he ‘slipped in the shower!’

Monday was a fantastic night for the city of Liverpool with both the Royal Variety Performance and the Turner Prize taking place in the City…

I have seen so many pictures from both occasions but the one that tickled me the most is this one.

The Queen and her companion arriving at the theatre – It just struck me that it looks like she is in a black cab and is saying “Just on the right here by this red carpet is fine thanks – how much do I owe you!”

Please do let me have your caption! I've got a meal for two - plus a bottle of house wine - (post Christmas) for the winner, at the Living Room in the city centre, which recently re-opened after a makeover.

Post your captions in the comment box below.
