Classic FM from the top of the Beetham Tower

By Carolyn Hughes on Jan 3, 08 11:31 PM in

Liverpool's tallest building, the Beetham Organisation's West Tower, played host to Classic FM on 3 January 2008, when the station relocated from its usual home in the heart of London's West End to broadcast live from Liverpool, marking the start of the city's year as the European Capital of Culture.

It's the first time in Classic FM's 15-year history that the station has broadcast an entire day's output from somewhere other than its London studios.

Throughout the day, the station showcased recordings from its Orchestra in the North West, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.

Classic FM recently announced a five-year extension to their groundbreaking partnership with the Phil that will include the broadcast of 25 concerts from the orchestra's 2007/08 season at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
