April is bowel cancer awareness month and in order to promote awareness about this very treatable illness, Consultant Colorrectal Surgeon Paul Skaife from Aintree University Hospital arranged a celebrity football match - which also highlighted the importance of early diagnosis, treatment and other oncological issues such as chemotherapy and radio therapy.

Relevant healthcare professionals, ranging from ward nurses to physiotherapists were also on hand to demonstrate the 'patient journey' for colorectal cancer and were on hand to answer any questions, and inform people of new developments, such as the national bowel cancer screening programme. There was a post event drinks reception at the Sir Thomas Hotel on Victoria Street.
